Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Our Little Chow Chow Sanctuary for?

Being a long term care sanctuary, OLCCS doesn’t typically have a lot of turnover in our residents since they are with us for life! Because of this we have set our focus on the dogs that are not behavioral appropriate for a rescue. Our background and focus on positive training techniques allow for some unique opportunities. If you have heard no from other rescues, check with us.

Additionally, if you are another registered non profit dog rescue or animal shelter that has found a Chow Chow with special needs in your care, please reach out to us. We have a limited number of spaces reserved for foster dogs / transfers from other organizations.

Does OLCCS charge a surrender fee?

If a dog is accepted into the Sanctuary, we do not charge a surrender fee. OLCCS is a registered 501c3 nonprofit organization, we are funded through donations.

Does my dog need to be up-to-date on vaccines and preventatives?

Yes, and this is especially true if your dog is coming from us from outside the state of Michigan.

Do you offer transport for a dog that is being surrendered?

As of July 31st 2023, OLCCS currently does not offer transport services. We hope to offer transport services in the future.

Is OLCCS currently accepting new Residents (Surrenders)?

As of October 6, 2024, Our Little Chow Chow Sanctuary currently full and is not accepting applications for new residents, as we are currently are working to settle and integrate our newest Residents. Please be aware that we are not a rescue, we are a sanctuary, meaning that our Residents are not adopted out. This is their forever home. Our dogs have very unique needs which requires us to move a little slower for the safety of our dogs and personnel.

If OLCCS is accepting new residents (shown above) and you have a Chow in your care that has behavioral needs that have prevented him/her from being accepted into rescue / being adopted, or you have been told no by other rescues, please fill out the below form and an OLCCS representative will get in contact with you as soon as possible to discuss options.  *Please note that successful submission of this form does not constitute as an agreement to surrender a dog to OLCCS*
